Fine Art Contemporary & Modern Prints

The CARL FUDGE, EVERYONE HAS A THEORY AS TO WHY I AND III project was entirely created digitally in our digital workshop and printed on an Iris Printer.

Image No. 1 is a copy of a Japanese Ukyio-e print after Katsushika Hokusai in the Shunga tradition of Japanese erotic art. This image was scanned into the computer at a high resolution to convert to a digital image. Once it was converted to a digital image, the image was redrawn by doing a tracing of the original image using a vector based graphics program. No. 2 is a sample of the redrawn traced image in wire frame mode which shows just the linear elements without color.

No. 3 shows the redesigned vectorized file in color format and how it appeared on the monitor for Carl Fudge to view. During the vectorizing process, all of the shapes colors and forms of the original woodblock were available as separate elements to manipulate similar to jigsaw puzzle pieces. No. 4 is the No. 3 image that starts to utilize formulas that Carl Fudge developed which uses the capabilities of Adobe Photoshop software. If you look carefully at images 3 and 4, you can recognize the elements in their new places.

No. 5 is a variation of No. 4 where a different formula was applied to image No. 3. Color adjustments were made to update to a more contemporary palette for the final images. The final files were printed on an Iris Printer on a Somerset velvet paper in an edition of 30. Since this was a digital printmaking process, what appears on the computer monitor is precisely what the final product looks like in terms of color, shape, textures, detail and clarity.

No. 6 and 7 - Proofs were made during the entire process from beginning to end. This allowed Carl to visualize everything and make adjustments for the final prints.

Number 8 shows Carl Fudge signing the final prints.
