Since the early '60s, Los Angeles artist Ed Ruscha has been regarded as one of the leading figures in Pop Art. That label is too limiting, however; Ruscha's boundless inventive impulse has led him to build a remarkable and broad body of work including elements of process art, conceptual art, photo-realism, and media-based imagery, not to mention his unique and celebrated explorations of words and phrases as subject matter.
