Jim Dine

When Jim Dine arrived in New York, it coincided with the beginnings of the Pop Art movement and the "Happenings", in which Jim Dine was an early participant. Jim Dine has in his forty year career as a painter, sculptor, printmaker, and photographer had many accomplishments that have lead to international recognition and acclaim. Jim Dine’s emotional, gestured style and recurrent subjects -- his hearts, robes, Venuses, flowers, birds, and portraits -- have yielded images that not only hold very personal significance for the artist, they have become cultural icons. Jim Dine has had a prolific printmaking career that was celebrated in the form of a major retrospective at the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts.
