Jane Hammond

Born 1950, Bridgeport, Connecticut. Lives and works in New York.

Hammond's work is composed of myriad layers of media, ideas and associations. The process of piecing together an image is a meditative exercise for Hammond, having "more to do with duration than texture. I see it as a function of time, like the idea of chanting."

Her work is included in major American and international collections and she was the subject of a mid-career retrospective curated by the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art that traveled to The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu, Hawaii; Madison Art Center, Madison, Wisconsin; and Blaffer Gallery, The Art Museum of the University of Houston, Texas.
