Pace Prints will present an exhibition of important late prints by Matisse, Picasso, and Dubuffet in Booth B4.When his physical abilities began to decline in the late 1930s, Matisse devised a number of ways he could continue to produce art. Among his new printmaking techniques were linoleum cuts, with their fluid white lines drawn on dense black backgrounds, as well as the dazzling Jazz series based on the artist’s paper cutouts. In addition to these late prints by Matisse, the installation will include aquatints and linoleum cuts created by Picasso after 1945. These bold and often colorful works are primarily portraits inspired by his muses Francoise and Jacqueline. In 1964, Dubuffet created a radical new style in his art which he called L’Hourloupe. His innovative silkscreens from this period are characterized by a graphic energy and embedded in the prints’ maze-like imagery are his signature whimsical figures. On view will be the monumental Site de Memoire II, a nearly 7 x5 foot silkscreen printed in canvas.
