Santi Moix on Don Quixote

 – , 2008

Pace Prints, in collaboration with the Institut Ramon LLull, is pleased to present the exhibition Don Quixote, a portfolio of twelve black and white intaglio prints by Santi Moix at Pace Prints Chelsea, located at 521 West 26th Street. Moix has interpreted the poignant humor and pathos of twelve passages from Cervantes epic fantasy. The portfolio combines etching, aquatint and drypoint.

The exhibition will also include a large wall drawing, created on site for the duration of the show, a suite of hand colored prints, a series of color drawings that expand Moix’ interpretation of Don Quixote’s adventures, and Moix’ notebooks, which provide a window into the creative processes that this magnificent novel inspired. It is clear that Moix, a true Catalonian, has a rightful claim to the lineage that spawned the extraordinary draughtmanship of his Spanish predecessors- Goya and Picasso. The exhibition runs from September 11 through October 4, 2008.

“Part of the pleasure of this project on Quixote by Santi Moix is that it boldly closes the gap between writing and art, between the markmaking of the pen, the stylo, the etching tool, between the fiction of two absolutely distinct means of expression, and proposes instead a true imaginative domain in which unity is everything” – Adrian Dannati, 2008

Santi Moix (b. 1960 Barcelona, Spain) lives and works in New York City. He received the Guggenheim Fellowship Award in 2002 and has held solo exhibitions of his work in cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Zaragoza, Girona and New York. His unique works are represented by the Paul Kasmin Gallery, and his editions by Pace Prints.
